The oil seals (Type A) according to DIN 3760 consist of an unalloyed carbon steel reinforcement ring surrounded by a outer jacket.
The oil seals are made from the following materials:
NBR rubber (Nitrile, Perbunan)
The oil seals have a temperature range of -30 to 100 degrees Celsius.
NBR is resistant to, among other things, mineral oil and fats, water, alcohol, and acetylene.
FPM Viton (high temperatures)
The oil seals have a temperature range of -20 to 200 degrees Celsius.
FPM Viton is resistant to, among other things, synthetic and hydraulic fluids, hydrochloric acid, diesel fuel, and gasoline.
EPDM
The oil seals have a temperature range of -50 to 130 degrees Celsius.
EPDM is resistant to solvents, brake fluid, hot water, and steam.
Silicone
The oil seals have a temperature range of -60 to 220 degrees Celsius.
Silicone is resistant to water, air, oxygen, hot water, and various chemicals.
The oil seal is basically a pressureless seal, intended for a rotating non-axially sliding shaft.
Adequate lubrication between shaft and sealing lip is essential for the life of an oil seal.
In the most common applications such as oil or grease, lubrication is taken care of.
In other cases, a lubricant should be applied
If the liquid to be sealed does not have good lubrication properties (including water), then the type of AS is widely used.
For the installation of an oil seal, Robara has made a handy step-by-step plan;
1. Before mounting, check whether ash and house are clean and burr-free.
2. Use a mounting socket if, for example, the oil seal needs to be slid over a keyway.
3. Lubricate lip and ash with clean grease or oil. If type AS is mounted, fill the space between the two lips with grease.
4. Bring the oil seal into place evenly with the use of an attachment.
5. Always place the sealing lip to the liquid to be sealed.
